A Little Piece Of Heaven

You are only a few seconds away from receiving a little piece of heaven.

Life can be so hard and it’s such a struggle out there.
What if you were given a little piece of heaven in advance?

As Christian’s that’s literally what we are given
In the form of the Holy Spirit.
When we become believers God has ‘given us the spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.’

Some translations use the word ‘deposit’ instead of ‘guarantee’ and according to Professor of New Testament studies Harold Hoehner this is what it would have meant in the original Greek. Like when we want to reserve an expensive item, so we pay a deposit in advance.

Wow.
We disobeyed God, and followed Satan, generation after generation falling away.
And yet ‘while we were still sinners, Jesus died for us.’ God incarnated as a man to literally pay the penalty, for all the ways we had run away from him, and his law.

If that wasn’t enough to demonstrate the immense love he has for us, he has also given us an advance of what is to come, in the form of the Holy Spirit.

It’s getting darker and darker out there and we need that spirit.
The ‘great awakening’ narrative tells us, it’s all okay, humanity is shifting and everything is getting better, and all the negative emotions you experience every full moon or new moon or mercury retrograde is just working on your ‘stuff.’

But God doesn’t need you to work on anything to be worthy of his love, he just needs you to turn to him. That can happen in an instant.

God shines his light to the level that someone needs it, the darker it gets the more God will pour his spirit out onto his people, ‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;’ Acts 2:17.

Christians are the most persecuted religious group on earth, and yet many are killed, refusing to surrender their faith. How can they do this? They carry a piece of heaven inside of themselves.
'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.' Phillipians 4.13.

How exhausting it is to think each day that we need to rise up, and fight, and take down a system that remains stubbornly in place, like a runaway train that has its own momentum that nobody can stop.

God sees all and has a plan in place, that he conceived in the beginning of time.
Our broken-hearted God told us a story in a book of all he has done to try and bring us home.

Keep running towards the darkness, or learn what the book says and the lights flicker on, understanding is illuminated about all he has done and how truly amazing he is.

Satan told Eve she wasn’t enough, she had to eat from the tree, to become a god to be interesting and worthy. But even in your biggest failures, and worst transgressions of God’s law, you are still worth dying for.

Getting an advance on our prize is not something to take lightly. In a way it makes me think of getting a book deal, money in advance for writing words that have not yet been written. With God’s spirit in our hearts, we do have work to do.

We are ‘saved by grace through faith,’ simply by believing but after we believe, God gives us little tasks to help with his big vision of bringing his people back home. We must listen to what he wants us to do and remain faithful until the end.
