Christianity, it's not what you think it is
Misconceptions About Christianity N.O 1: Christianity is religion
Christianity is often thought of as ‘religion,’ coming with its connotations of being, ‘man-made,’ about being controlled by ‘the church,’ a bossy set of laws about how to live our lives.
However, Jesus, himself, was not religious. He was killed by religious leaders. In the Bible he repeatedly calls out the hypocrisy of the religious leaders of his time who did not recognise him as the son of God.
Christianity is not about religion, it’s a relationship. By believing in Jesus, that he really was the son of God, and that he really did die for our sins and rise from the dead, we are able to connect with God, the creator of our universe.
The ‘religious spirit’ is seen by some Christians as an actual demonic spirit that seeks to distort Christian teachings, encouraging people to seek to judge and control others, causing chaos, confusion, shame and guilt amongst believers, putting off non-believers. It’s the perfect Satanic plan to make being a Christian seem as unappealing as possible.
‘For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.’ - 2 Corinthians 11:13-14
It’s more and more common these days to be ‘spiritual but not religious.’ I used to define myself like that too. What I didn’t realise is that having a supernatural relationship with the living God through his son Jesus Christ is the most amazing spiritual possibility there is.
