Escaping The Echo Chamber
What use is free speech if you are in an echo chamber?
When Musk took over twitter it was celebrated as a victory for free speech.
Hashtags like #vaccineinjury and other truth topics started trending.
However this was only happening because more and more people were leaving the platform outraged at Musk taking over.
The left hate Musk (not sure why exactly, but they do). It’s not for the same reasons I am concerned about what he does. (brain chips and electric cars etc).
I was in the car with some family members who were listening to radio 4 and the radio hosts described him as ‘demonic.’
Post-election vast numbers of remaining lefties are moving from Twitter to BlueSky, another social media site.
I used to get writing jobs on twitter, and would excitedly open an email each week that collected all the writing jobs from twitter. But it’s like a graveyard now, because journalists don’t use it anymore.
So when Musk is celebrated as a bastion of free speech, I’m sceptical.
He has been used to cause division to create an echo chamber, to attempt to ensure, that everyone who sees your posts already believes what you believe.
He has been used to pacify people into thinking they have free speech, while it becomes increasingly hard to reach those who think differently.
If you truly want to make a difference and connect with those who might not know what you know, then maybe try Threads or BlueSky. I also really love Substack for making all sorts of different connections.
And of course there’s always the real world!
In times of increasing division, let’s not give into the polarisation.
Twitter is a graveyard. An x marks the spot where the bodies are buried.
