One of the biggest spiritual deceptions out there is that we need to ‘work on ourselves’ to find peace. That peace is something that we find, when we have the exact state of consciousness needed to house it in our bodies and minds. That we need to ‘ascend’ or ‘awaken’ in order to reach this state.
I know this may sound surprising. I was pretty surprised when I realised too, particularly as it contradicted beliefs I’d held about spirituality for most of my adult life.
I do believe that as humans on this earth, we learn and evolve and grow as people. I do believe that traumatic experiences are stored in our bodies and minds, and we can heal, process and release stress and trauma as part of our personal evolution.
However there seems to be another side to some practises in which by opening up our consciousness, we also open ourselves up to the risk of demonic influence. This can lead to a never-ending cycle of finding healing, but also being sabotaged, things not quite working out, chaos entering our lives, never quite getting there.
The journey is endless we have been led to believe.
Or is it?
When I found God I found a completely different way of looking at it. That we do not need to seek love, to ascend to love, to enlighten ourselves into a state of love.
The love that God has for us is there, in an instant.
With this comes peace. Not the kind of peace that comes from hours and hours of trying to seek it, but an instant peace, one that is always there.
This doesn’t mean that we’ll be happy all the time, or that there won’t be trials and challenges. But it’s a firm anchor amidst a sea of consciousness, a sea in which we may not quite understand the dangers, and the creatures in the dark depths.
It can be tempting to build a ladder to reach the heavens, but it may give way beneath you. Instead we can humbly accept our status as imperfect humans, come back down to earth, and do our best to love the neighbours around us.
