Pick Your Poison
Arsenic and cyanide are both poisons.
If you ask me to choose between the two, what kind of a choice is it?
If I say arsenic is dangerous, does it mean I think cyanide is safe?
Of course not.
And so it is with the political system.
Poisonous.
But here’s a sobering thought.
The Bible shows that oftentimes the people get the leaders they deserve.
It is a sign of poison in society, the way the people are living.
We cannot look to a leader to be our saviour, anymore than we can put the entire blame on them.
Instead it’s an invitation to consider the way we are living, the possibility that there is a God that is calling us home.
And as the leaders seem more dark, and poisonous,
Or more shiny and gold,
it’s getting near to the time of the last call.
When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Matthew 23:31-34
