Have more faith in the cracks and the edges and the fringes
Who goes there?
Not them.
They blare their message in the town square
but cannot keep track of those who tired of their incessant rambling and trailed off,
finding an rough, old path, the disused train tracks or the one overgrown with weeds
They toss you out of society and unwittingly set you free
to find these paths less travelled
it’s so quiet out here away from the megaphones
with nature always free
and how is it that you are not alone, that so many others have found the same secret pathways
and are arriving in a forest clearing
like old friends who have never met before
but know each other’s souls
it’s so quiet here
just the crackle of the fire burning and the murmuring of softer, gentler voices.
It is so quiet here without the relentless diatribe of those who proclaim they will fight you to the bitter end.
For what?
for wanting to raise your children peacefully without having their minds moulded to fear disaster after disaster,
the disasters that make them richer and richer.
For wanting to eat good food unpolluted by the toxic chemicals owned by the same person who wants every man, woman and child to receive the exact same ‘medicine,’
for declining the concoctions made by criminals
for wanting nothing more than to be human to meet each other with eyes, and smiles.
What a lot of noise in our heads to shed as we walk the path to each other, to a new life.
I know you’re tired, your legs are aching, and your heart is ready to crack,
but the clearing is almost visible, and we are almost there.

This piece of writing was inspired by a day spent peacefully at home with my family and cats, next to a crackling fire, cooking good food and being together, and wondering why this, simple existence is a threat to politicians such as Macron, who say they will fight us to the ‘bitter end.’ For what?
That is so beautiful Kate and after reading found my breathing became easier. Thank you.
